  • How does acupuncture work?
Acupuncture is a form of healing using the body’s own resources. Qi or the energy of your body is what maintains your energetic balance and allows everything to work properly. When our bodies are out of balance we begin to see symptoms and illness either on the physical or mental level. During our time together I will uncover the root of the disharmony. Once it is clear exactly what the problem is then acupuncture and Chinese medicine can be used to rebalance the body’s energy at exactly that area, which in turn will create different results and alleviate your symptoms.
  • Will it hurt?
The needles I use are hair-thin and often times patients don't feel any sensation at all. Other times it might be a slight pinch but nothing like what we experience with hypodermic needles used for blood collection or shots.
  • What does acupuncture treat?
These are some of the most common conditions we see in our clinic and treat effectively. This is by no means an exhaustive list. Abdominal pain/ GI Issues Arthritis Seasonal Allergies Anxiety Back Pain Bells Palsey Asthma Cancer pain Depression Diabetes Irregular Periods Painful Periods Earache Facial pain and spasm Female infertility Fibromyalgia Gastro Issues Headache Insomnia Knee pain Lactation deficiency Meniere’s disease Morning sickness Nausea and vomiting Neck pain Osteoarthritis Polycistic Ovary syndrome Postoperative pain Recurrent Urinary Tract Infection Rheumatoid arthritis Sciatica Sore throat Spine pain Stiff neck Stroke recovery Elbow pain TMJ Ulcerative Colitis
  • Do you take insurance?
Yes, we are currently in network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield and United. If you have out of network benefits, we will provide you with proper receipts to submit for reimbursement. We will also gladly accept HSA (Health Spending Account) and FSA (Flexible Spending Account) cards for payment.
  • Is acupuncture safe?
Extremely. Millions of people use acupuncture every year. I use only pre-sterilized, single-use disposable needles. Acupuncture is well known for it's efficacy and lack of side effects.
  • What kind of training do you have?
Our practitioners both have Masters Degrees in Acupuncture from Maryland University of Integrative Health. This program includes a rigorous acadmic program combined with hundreds of hours of clinical experience in the university clinic. Post graduation practitioners achieved National Board Certification with NCCAOM in addition to their Maryland license. Collectivley we have significant additional training in pain management, women's health, Chinese herbs and fertility.
  • What will my experience be like?
Each person has a unique experience with acupuncture because each body responds differently. It is a powerful healing experience and many people report it to be extremely relaxing. The first appointment is an indept health and personal history interview where we seek to fully understand your health concerns. You will then receive your first acupuncture treatment. This initial appointment typically lasts about 1.5 hours. From there we will develop a plan to help alleviate your symptoms while treating the root cause of your disharmony. Ideally you would be seen in weekly visits at first and then begin to space the visits out as you see significant changes. Our goal for every patient is to give them the tools to maintain their own wellness and eventually only treat them once seasonally.
